Since 2018, MacGregor State School has had Future Anything’s in-curriculum program Activate embedded into their school Business subject. With this experience under their belt, they’ve learnt what works for their students and their local community.
Here’s how MacGregor State School is making the Activate program work for their students:
- Holding the Showcase during school time and making it a school community event, with younger year levels participating in the audience.
- Engaging alumni, local community members or staff from the nearby university to judge the shark tank, bringing the community together.
- Focusing on sketch prototypes, but bringing in the technology faculty when students are ready for physical prototypes. This creates a valuable environment for cross-department collaboration.
Kerry says that the support of Future Anything throughout the Activate program is what propels her students to success.
“It’s fully resourced for us to be able to deliver,” she says. “Future Anything makes connections through industry for us and regularly check in with Zoom calls, feedback and assistance. It’s fantastic. It’s such a value-add to the curriculum and the benefits and outcomes for students are huge.”
“When students connect to the problem they want to tackle, they become very passionate about it, and they really engage in the program.”
Future Anything’s Activate in-curriculum program and student workshops build confident communicators of all ages, by empowering young people to develop, and then persuasively pitch, innovative social enterprise solutions to the problems they care about.
