Please see a copy of the slidedeck here.

Nic & Louka also announced a partnership between Future Anything and The Learning Future to support schools to move from vision and strategy to reality in the classroom through a three-year engagement.

Year 1: Strategy & Vision

Year 2: Leadership, Culture & Pedagogy

Year 3: Curriculum, Capabilities (incl. Learner Profiles) and Classrooms

If you’re keen to chat more about this transformation work for your school, reach out to Nic (nicole@futureanything.com) and/or Louka (louka@thelearningfuture.com) directly.

BUILDING CAPABILITIES IN YOUR CLASSROOM

Here’s the framework, tools and templates helpful to explicitly teach 21st Century skills (or soft skills, or general capabilities) in your classroom.

Capabilities Research

  • You can explore the ACARA General Capabilities via the V9 website or through the QCAA information page.
  • The 6 Cs of Deeper Learning are explored in two books by Michael Fullen (et. al.). Deep Learning: Engage the World Change the World and Dive into Deep Learning: Tools for Engagement (check your local library catalogue for a free copy).
  • The work happening by the SACE Board in South Australia is discussed here. Check out our great Live Learning session with Hassan Mekawy (Program Manager – Education, SACE Board of South Australia) and Pip Cleaves (Deputy Principal – Strategic Initiatives, NSW Department of Education) which unpacked how we can prioritise the development of capabilities as integral to the purpose of education.
  • New Metrics from Melbourne University have shared this resource pack about assessing agency in learning. You can learn more about the New Metrics partnership here.
  • Read about the Matthew Flinders Anglican College Learning Powers launch here.

LEVELLING UP YOUR CURRICULUM FOR V9.0

If this is your jam, you’ve still got time to jump into our Enterprising Curriculum online program. Over nine weekly workshops, we’ll support you to build a whole new unit of work. See more on this cohort-based professional development here.

Otherwise, key resources from this session are below:

  • The key slides from the session can be found here.
  • This is the canvas that we used for the session.
  • Nic’s blog on designing a future-focused curriculum is here. This blog walks through a simple process to re-imagine curriculum.
  • More on building relationships with students at the beginning of a school year/unit is here.
  • More on nailing the context complexity of your units here.
  • PBLWorks and High Tech High have a wealth of resources on Project-Based Learning, as well as exemplar projects and bucketloads of templates.
  • This is our Project Rubric. It’s a student-friendly rubric that can be used to help teachers and students to assess projects.
  • One of our Live Learning Online CPD sessions was on ‘Designing Joyful Curriculum’ with Joanne McEachen from The Learner First. If you missed it, you can check out the recording here. It’s a fantastic discussion around curriculum design principles.
  • Joanne references AMMA (Authentic Mixed Method Assessment) and Contributive Learning in the Live Learning session above. Check them out.
  • In a previous Live Learning session, we also caught up with Laura McBain (d.school, Stanford, USA) and Kwaku Aning (Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurial Thinking, San Diego Jewish Academy, USA) on bringing the real world into the classroom through Project Based Learning. You can watch it here.

UNLEASHING ENTREPRENEURSHIP

Using Future Anything’s Odyssey framework and our Catapult Cards, here are all the resources you need to take students from picking a problem through to pitching a solution.
